Greetings to all Stampers, Scrappers and Paper Crafters;

Something exciting is happening at The Baker’s Wife and this email is for you, the Stamper, Scrapper, and Paper Crafter.

I (Phyllis) AM RETIRING, BUT PLEASE READ ON.

For all of you who have said, please don’t close, what would we do with out your beautiful shop of supplies? I sincerely thank each and every one of you, for those kind words and support over the past 14 years. I truly enjoyed my shop, creating a fun destination for all to enjoy.

NEW SHOP OPENING

My shop of supplies has been purchased by Kay Kibbel, an employee, and we are moving all inventory and fixtures this week and will reopen, Monday, May 2, 2011.

If she opens sooner she will email a notice. It will come from Stamp This, Scrap That, the new name of the shop.

Kay has many years of creativity, and will provide a full shop of supplies. She is a fun loving creative spirit and is very excited to greet every one of you.

Stamp This, Scrap That is located just 1 block north of Hwy 70 West in the mini mall just south of Walmart on Plaza Drive.

The phone number will remain the same, 715-356-5626, and you will be greeted with the same friendly, helpful staff.

The mini mall also includes Molly’s Café and Papa Murphy’s Pizza. Hopefully you can find it now.

Kay has been busy planning and shopping for all those new release products arriving in time for Spring Stampede, Saturday, May, 7^th.

The Stampede event will be great again this year; Kay will have a 20% discount on all in store products, and lots of prizes.

Prize drawing will be Saturday, May 7^th at 4pm. You won’t want to miss it.

Stamp This Scrap That, will be hosting a 3 day event again this year, starting Friday ending Sunday.

Extended store hours: Friday 10am to 7pm, Saturday 7am to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 2pm.

There will be $1 make-n-takes, and they will be awesome as usual, the staff has been busy creating, using new materials.

I personally thank you for all your support over the past 14 years, and sincerely hope you enjoy shopping at Kay’s new shop.

I will be helping Kay at Stampede, along with creative designers Mary Anne, Kim, Lynne, Patty and Linda.

The Grand Calibur Has Arrived!

UPS arrived the other day three big boxes. Inside were the Spellbinders Grand Calibur and eight Big Grand Nestabilities. Wow!

As you can see from the photos below we had tons of fun.

Here's additional information we found online:
"The Grand Calibur is a Die Cutting and Embossing System. For use with GRAND NESTABILITIES and will also cut multiple dies at once. These include any Spellbinders Dies. It has more than 3000 pounds of pressure and distributes weight evenly across. Which means when placing multiple dies on platform the dies on the outside will get EXACT same pressure for cutting and embossing as those die cuts on the inside! The Caliber comes with three plates: The A plate is the base plate, the B plate is the embossing plate, and the C plate in the cutting plate. It also will come with a Tan embossing pad. Machine weighs 8 pounds with an 8 1/2 inch opening with a carrying handle making the machine totally PORTABLE! Calibur Dimensions: 16 inches long x 11 inches wide x 9 inches tall."

New Gallery at the Baker's Wife

You made it through the Stampede and the Beef-a-Rama. Now you are home at your craft table and you don't remember what any of the cards you saw look like. You really want to make that blue one with the snowflake and you just can't remember, "was it blue or purple?" Well the Baker's Wife has a new page just for you. If you look at the tabs at the top of this page you will see a tab called "Gallery." You will be able to find all the cards that have been and will be put on this blog, in the Gallery.

I hope you find this helpful, and that it motivates you to make a card or two.

Guess Who Was at The Baker's Wife Today?

Phyllis and I had a nice visit and our picture taken. Now you can see the faces behind all this fun.
We had a great visit and my eyes couldn't stop spotting new items throughout the store. I will be telling you all about that in up coming post.
While I was there another visitor came in. One that we all love to see. The man in the big brown truck.

Yes that's right, while I was there the UPS Man came with a delivery. I was so excited to be there when Phyllis opened the boxes from We R Memory Keepers. Wait until you see this beautiful collection that you will not find at the big box stores. The Baker's Wife has several of these collections. The collection that came in today is called Maple Grove and it is WONDERFUL!!!

This is an amazing card kit.

Wait until you see all the beautiful paper, die-cuts, tags, stickers and alphabets included in this collection. The designer Scrapbook Pad has over 500 pieces. SCOR-BUDDY mini Scor-Pal scoring tablet

The Scor-Buddy was designed for card makers on the go and has grooves every 1/4" across the board, plus 1/8" grooves for the first and last inch of the board. It measures approx. 9" x 7.5" and has a fence down the left side. A free Scor-Tool is included in the snap-in holder and it comes with its own faux ultra suede carry tote.

If you have a Scor-Pal and love it you are really going to love this. The Scor-Buddy is not met to replace the Scor-Pal, but is to be used in conjunction with it. You can watch a video about it here.

I hope you are having a wonderful 4th of July weekend.

Vacation Book Class by Christine Brown

A book you made yourself, or with the family, is a great way to save those wonderful memories you make when you vacation, "Up North."

The Vacation Book class is taught on Thursdays at 1PM by the very talented Christine Brown, a local published artist.

You will receive everything you need. All the materials, directions, embellishments and personal attention are included. The cost for this class is $45. You will learn how to distress pages, cut out and layer cut out portions of a page, and reduce photos to fit on the page.

Just received a new shipment of Flower Soft - just look at all of the colors!

Spring Mix, Vintage Christmas, Heather Mix, Summer Mix, Sweet Pea, Fuschia, Autumn, Black, Ivory, Russet Red, Christmas Green, Pale Green, Nut Brown, and Shamrock Green. Also brand new is the Polar White - it is awesome - has some glitter in it - just think snow!

Also got in the new Great Impressions for the month. It is an beautiful collection with fairies, a dragon fly, elegant swirls and more! You'll have to stop in soon to check it out.

Classes at The Bakers Wife

Wanted to show you a couple of pictures of a Folio class we are doing at The Bakers Wife. We have three different paper choices for you. You fabulous Mary Anne is teaching this class and we have had quite a few people take advantage of this great class already. The class is offered each Wednesday and is only $20.00. This folio would hold alot of great vacation pictures as it opens and has lots of room for photos. Hope you will join us soon for this class - give us a call we'll have a spot ready for you - 715-356-5626 - we also welcome walk-ins as long as there is room!

We have been busy making lots of new make and takes. We are using Hero Arts , Amuse, The Pines and Lizzie Anne designs for our make and takes. They are still only $1.00 and are a great way to make a few hand made cards for the special people in your lives.

As usual we have a ton of northwoods themed papers and embellishments. We also have our vacation, summer, dog, cat, sports, and birthday themed areas fully stocked with both papers and embellishments. We have received a great many compliments on the range of products and scrapbook papers we carry in our store. Phyllis makes a huge effort each year to keep up with all of the new trends and bring in new paper lines for your enjoyment.

Hero Arts Long Floral Border Card

Here is another card that we will be putting out as a make and take soon. It is using the pretty Hero Arts Floral Border stamp. We colored directly on the stamp with our Tombow Markers - gave it a little "huff" and stamped it on the white card stock. Then used the Rangers Liquid Pearls Platinum color in the center of all of the flowers. This is such a great product and so easy to use - just squeeze on where you want it and let dry. It gives a nice raised effect. Note you can click on the picture to give you a closer view of the card.

Then took our black card stock and applied Scor-It tape (1/8") around all four outer edges - took off the liner paper and sprinkled our Great Impressions "Sparkling Ice" glitter on and tapped off the excess. We love the Sparkling Ice Glitter because it is so fine and sparkly and lets the color underneath show through. If you have not tried Scor-It tape yet, you really should. It is very similar to the Wonder Tape except that the Wonder Tape has a red plastic liner on top where the top liner of the Scor-It tape is paper, so rather than having to cut it with a scissors you can just rip it with your fingernail. The best thing about the Scor-It Tape in comparison to the Wonder Tape is the price - Scor-It is so much more economical (cheaper-he, he). This tape is made by the same folks who make the great Scor-Pal - love it too! Then adhered our black glitzy card to the white stamped panel with foam adhesive dots to give the card a little dimension. Ran the lavender panel through the Cuttlebug using the Argyle embossing folder (love that argyle), put a cute black and white ribbon around the lavender panel, adhered everything together and TA-DA it is complete. So much fun and easy too.

Another take of Distress Inks, Perfect Pearls, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder & Nestabilities

Had so much fun doing the last card, decided to do a second just using some different colors and the same technique. This time we used Ranger Dried Marigold Distress Ink and Gold Perfect Pearls. Used the same Nestabilities, just switched the background color out with the secondary color. Can't believe what a difference it makes.

Those cute flowers that are at the bottom are a new ribbon we got in last week - don't you just love it? They are puffy and soft and since they are white you could color them whatever color you want with your ink pads. Phyllis told us that you get approximately 55 daises in a yard for a very reasonable price of 70 cents per yard. You just can't go wrong at that price. What is that beautiful bling in the center of these flowers? Those are the new Basic Grey Bling Gems. There are two colors in each package (the package we used was orange/red). There are 80 total gems - 40 of each color and what is really nice is that there are five different sizes. They are self adhesive and what makes them really classy is the fact that they have a silver bottom which reaches around to the side so you can see the silver on the side of the each gem. These come in both the round as was used on this card and also square - we have lots of colors too!

Fun with Distress Inks, Perfect Pearls & Nestabilities

Just wanted to drop in to show you a new make and take we will have out shortly. It uses some of our favorite things in the store. We die cut the white circle with the Nestabilities Small Classic Inverted Scalloped Circles (S4-195 you get 6 sizes of inverted scalloped circles in the set) using the Cuttlebug. Then die cut the yellow circle with the Nestabilities Small Standard Scalloped Circles again using the Cuttlebug. Then used the Swiss Dot folder with the Cuttlebug to emboss the blue layer.

For the stamping we used the beautiful Memory Box Butterfly and stamped with Aged Mahogany Distress Ink. While it was still wet used a brush to apply Gold Perfect Pearls by Ranger and then dried with a heat gun and brushed off any excess. It gives the card such a pretty shine. Used the cute black ribbon with white dashes and a Hero Arts flower from the white and cream collection and a Hero Arts black gemstone. So easy and so much fun. Stop in soon and make one of these new make and takes - they're still only a dollar.

Masculine Cards

I don't know about anyone else, but I just totally struggle with masculine cards. When we got a new paper in from one of our favorite paper company's Paper's Best and I saw paper with ducks on it I thought to myself - now that's masculine!!!!

I was able to make 4 cards out of one sheet of scrapbook paper. I used our new ZVA gems on this card. I put a gem in each of the ducks eyes and also 5 gems along the right hand side of the sentiment. I just love these gems. You get 12 colors in this selection (around 400 total gems). They are not adhesive, so all I did was use a toothpick and my Ultimate Glue and had no problems at all adhering them to my project.

Scor-Pal

Just arrived today are the Scor-Pals. This is the third shipment of this great tool that we have gotten in. If you haven't seen these or heard of them, check out their web site Scor-Pal.com. It is a scoring board that you can use for scoring all your cards, making decorative scores, making boxes, etc. If you are always having problems with scoring - this tool makes it a snap. Their web site (see above) has tons of great projects. Also just in from Scor-Pal is their Scor-It tape. This tape is similiar to redline tape, but rather than having the plastic that you need to cut with a scissors, this has a paper liner that you can just break with your finger nail. It is also less expensive than the redline tape - running $4.80 for 27 yards of 1/4" tape.

Tall Oaks Retreat

Just returned from my first ever retreat. Can't tell you how much fun my girlfriend Veronica and I had. This was a hosted event and the owner Casie was there and she cooked all of our meals and did the dishes so all we had to worry about was scrapbooking, cardmaking, and creating - how great is that! Every meal was great and some really great snacks too (just imagine brownies with Symphony bars baked right in). It was great meeting some very nice crafters from all over the state - all together there were 15 of us including Casie. The creative energy was really flowing and it was so much fun to see what others were working on and trading ideas, instructions, and scrapbooking supplies. The craft area is awesome - lots of table space for each person and some really comfortable chairs. She also has some tools that are available for your use including decorative scissors, a sewing machine, ironing board, Sizzix Big Shot/with dies, Tonic cutter, and a computer with high speed internet. This is a super getaway for any crafter and I would highly recommend checking it out. Click on Tall Oaks Retreat on the left side of our blog and that will get you to Casie's website where you can see some pictures of the retreat itself and further information on coming to one of the hosted retreats or renting it yourself and having your own retreat with a bunch of friends. Also this isn't just for scrappers, Casie welcomes all crafters. If you'd like to spend some creeative time with a bunch of like minded friends or make new friends this is really a place you should check into.
